The Power of Men’s Mental Health, Manhood, and Community

In today’s episode of Old Man Energy, I dive into one of the most important topics our community keeps coming back to—manhood, mental health, and how we can support one another as men. From the feedback and analytics I’ve gathered, it’s clear that this is what resonates with you all the most. So, today, we’re making some exciting changes to the show to focus more on creating a space for men to come together and improve our lives.

Why Men Need a Support System

Let’s face it—one of the biggest struggles men face is isolation. We pull away, whether it’s due to societal pressure, fear of being judged, or the sense that no one would understand what we’re going through. Men’s mental health often gets sidelined, and we’re conditioned not to open up. What makes it worse is that opening up, at times, has been weaponized against us, whether in toxic relationships or even in the courts.

Young men, too, are looking for guidance. They want to be better dads, husbands, leaders, but often don’t have the right examples to follow. This is where we, as older men, need to step up. It’s time to create spaces where we can be mentors and provide that guidance to help the next generation.

Building a Men’s Community

I’ve created a new program launching soon, aimed at building a strong men’s community. This will involve mentorship and coaching that connects men of all ages, creating a support network for both friendship and accountability. Whether you’re a young man trying to figure it all out, or someone like me who needs accountability from another man, this community is for you.

Keep an eye out for links at the bottom of the podcast episode and on social media for more information. We’re putting together something big, and I want you to be part of it.

How to Improve Yourself Right Now

The number one question I get is, “How do I start being a better man today?” Here are some practical ways you can start making changes in your life right now:

  1. Practice Gratitude – It may sound cliché, but starting your day by writing down just two or three things you’re grateful for will completely shift your mindset. Gratitude keeps you focused on what’s going well instead of getting bogged down by problems.
  2. Learn to Say No – One of the hardest lessons is realizing that just because you have some free time doesn’t mean it’s accessible to anyone who asks for it. Learn to say no and only commit to things that align with your goals or involve spending quality time with your family.
  3. Get More Sleep – Cut out the evening distractions. Stop scrolling through your phone for hours and get enough rest. You’ll be amazed at how much more productive and energized you’ll feel.

Long-Term Changes to Transform Your Life

Beyond those immediate actions, here are the things that take a little longer to see results but are equally important:

  • Eat Cleaner – You don’t need to be perfect, but try to get 80% of your diet to consist of fresh, raw foods. Your body and mind will thank you.
  • Move Daily – Find a way to incorporate at least 30-40 minutes of walking into your day. It’s great for both your physical and mental health. Bonus points if you can take your spouse or kids with you!
  • Feed Your Mind – Read something every day, even if it’s just a couple of pages. It’s the little things that add up. Feed your mind with knowledge, and you’ll find yourself growing in ways you never expected.

Stay Connected and Never Give Up

The key to success is consistency. It’s easy to give up when you don’t see immediate results, but one bad day doesn’t erase all your progress. I like to remind myself of this analogy: If you dropped a $5 bill out of $400, you wouldn’t throw the rest away. Same goes for your bad days—just get up and keep going.

Finally, remember, you are not alone. Whether you’re facing personal challenges or feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, there are people like me and others in this community who want to support you. We all need people in our corner, especially when times are tough.
